The Great Depression and today
The public is invited to a free brown-bag discussion about the current economic crisis at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Board Room at Shoreline Community College.
The event is called “Comparing Political and Economic Circumstances at the Time of the Great Depression and Now.”
Three professors will speak on the topic and facilitate discussion with the audience: Ken Lawson, dean of social science, economist Robert Francis and political scientist Larry Fuell.
Future brown-bag discussions about every two weeks will feature experts on topics including social programs and marginalized populations; international health care and humanitarian assistance; refugees and immigrants; business and labor; and energy and global food supply.
The sessions are organized by the Global Affairs Center and the Worldly Philosophers’ &Dismal Scientists’ Society (WP&DSS) student club at the community College.

Donate to SCC charity drives
Students, faculty and staff at Shoreline Community College are holding food and clothing drives this month.
Students in the DECA Program will do a business clothing drive for the YWCA’s Dress for Success Program Feb. 25 and 26. They need donations of large-sized suits and work dress including contemporary, interview-appropriate skirts, blouses, blazers, jackets and pant suits. Items can be dropped off at the PUB, the student union building at the main campus.
The Global Development Club is sponsoring a food drive for Northwest Harvest February 24-26. They seek donations of oatmeal, whole grain pastas, brown rice, tomato products, canned peas, canned pears and peaches, canned tuna, canned chicken and turkey, shelf-stable milk and kid-friendly food.

Cosmetology students are giving free shampoos and haircuts at Tent City 3, located at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Shoreline.
