The attempt to open Paine Field to commercial flights has received some serious consideration of late. Citizens of southern Snohomish County, you do not want this to happen. Aside from noise and air pollution, an onslaught of cheap new businesses that jeopardize existing local retailers, and increased traffic, your property values will take a hit, big time. As the people living under the new third runway of SeaTac have recently learned, people who stand to profit from this sort of expansion cannot be trusted. They do not have our best interests in mind, only their own. But in the end, it will be the decision of the Snohomish County Council. Those on the council who favor allowing commercial airlines in will spin and spout statistics that are skewed to seem less devastating than they are. Average noise levels won’t seem so bad on paper, but that really means the take off and landing noise of monstrous proportions will be diluted on paper when the down time is factored in. Deceiving? You betcha!
And, make no mistake, if we open the door a crack and let one airline in for just a few flights a day, there will be more airlines and more flights until those 10 flights a day become 60 or 80.
We need to band together and fight off what could be a decision of catastrophic proportions for the cities we live in. Our political leaders need to hear a thousand voices shouting “No! Not in our town!” Save Our Communities (SOC) has worked very hard for years to protect our cities from commercial flights at Paine Field. They could use your help in fighting on. Remember, if we build it (the terminal) they will come. And trust me, you don’t want to buy what they have to sell, the price is too dear.
