We are in the middle of another election season and again, we complain loudly about the negative advertising that is constantly placed in front of us, but how much do we do about it? Nothing.
Consider this. If we started bad-mouthing every negative advertisement we get or see, to all of those around us, and conclude our statements by saying “I’m not going to vote for that person,” it wouldn’t take too long for the effect to be felt.
It’s one thing to point out something that you feel was done wrong. However, what we are receiving is way beyond that and should be countered in some effective manner.
Suppose the media refused all negative advertising, unless it contained an equal amount of positive advertising for their candidate or their position. I just happen to believe that all of us working together could do something about that which we claim to detest.
I know; I’m dreaming, but it’s such a nice dream. I’m also aware that negative advertising seems to pay. Just ask anyone that has had something to do with any election campaign. And yet, if it is so good, why do we complain so bitterly about it?
Could it possibly be that we as citizen voters are little more than a flock of sheep, waiting for any kind of guidance?
