Today, Friday, April 6, is my final day as editor of the Mill Creek Enterprise. For the last four years it was my pleasure to cover your wonderful community.

I’ve had the privilege of seeing your community change substantially. Long time residents say Mill Creek isn’t the same as it was when it was first developed in the 1970s. It also isn’t the same town as when I arrived in May 2003.

That summer, the first building in Town Center — the one where Zinnia Cafe is — opened. By this summer, the development should be completed, with all the shops, restaurants and even condos adding their unique DNA in the fabric of the city.

I’ve seen Mill Creek absorbed by suburban sprawl and traffic congestion, but through all this, so many of the people I met haven’t changed. You were wonderful when I got there and you’re still the best. There’s so many of them that to list them all in this space would hog it all up. That and I don’t want to risk leaving someone out.

Your city council still gets things done without the petty bickering that ails so many local governing bodies. Your city government and police department are filled with good, hard working people. Your local library has a dedicated group of Friends who work to ensure that it remains a top-notch community library.

When I got here, I heard that Mill Creek was snobby. If that’s the case, then snobby is good. I’ve found it to be the warmest community in Western Washington.

So thank you Mill Creek for four wonderful years. May your heart and soul never change.
