Two Mill Creek students have been awarded Foundation For the Arts In Mill Creek Scholarships.
Garret Miller-Graff, son of Rick and Cheri Burkhardt, has earned the Jeanine Cyr Scholarship, named in honor of the Foundation’s founder. It is a four-year scholarship of $4,000; $1000 will be paid each year.
Miller-Graff is a student at Jackson High School and has been very active in the arts program, demonstrating exceptional skill in craftsmanship, composition, creativity and visual communication.
He was awarded the Silver Award for art in the Everett Scholastics art show. Garret is dedicated to his academic education and has taken rigorous courses such as AP Physics, Honors English, AP Art and UW English.
He has also been active in school and community activities. He is Senior Class Treasurer and has served as Treasurer for the National Art Society for two years. He has been an assistant youth basketball coach and has volunteered at the Seattle Food Banks.
Miller-Graff will attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia and plans to study Industrial Design.
Stephanie Platis is the daughter of Harry and Alethea Platis and has earned a $1,000 scholarship. She attends Jackson and has participated in a year long Advanced Placement Studio Art course, completing works with emphasis on Greek Iconography.
Platis has pursued studies in both fine arts and performing arts. She volunteers her time by directing a group of young dancers promoting the tradition of Greek dancing.
Platis has been accepted at Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle and plans to continue her art education, combining her interests in fine arts and dance.
