SHORELINE — Two sexual assaults were reported at the Aegis Assisted Living facility, 15100 block First Ave. NE, with two women allegedly victims of a male caregiver, according to police officials.

The reports were filed on consecutive days, the first June 23 and the second June 24. The first incident allegedly occurred three days before the police report was taken, June 20, and involved an 86-year-old victim who suffers from dementia. The second sexual assault allegedly occurred on the same day it was reported, June 24, and also involved an 80-year-old who suffered from a form of dementia, said King County Sheriffs spokesman John Urquhart.

“Both are under investigation,” Urquhart said. “Aegis has been extremely cooperative and reported the assaults.”

Dwayne Clark, chief executive officer of Aegis Assisted Living, confirmed that the caregiver in both assaults is the same person. Clark said that as soon as the alleged misconduct was discovered, police officials were contacted. The information has been turned over to the Shoreline Police Department, State of Washington and Ombudsman.

“We are fully cooperating with those agencies,” Clark said. “If allegations are true, we will swiftly and vehemently take action to protect residents.”

The caregiver is on leave pending the investigation, he said, and if found to be a threat, will be removed.

Clark declined to say if the caregiver had any prior criminal reports, but said the company issues background checks before hiring employees.
