LYNNWOOD — Two Alderwood Middle School students were emergency expelled from school Jan. 11 after one student brought an unloaded handgun to school and gave it to the other student, according to an Edmonds School District official.

“There was no threat made, (the gun) was just passed between two students,” said John Boerger, a district spokesman.

The event took place the week before, and the two male eighth-graders were expelled after a community member overheard the students talking about what they had done, Boerger said.

School officials were still investigating the situation as of The Enterprise deadline, he said.

As the investigation is completed, the emergency expulsion will either be changed to an expulsion or to a suspension, Boerger said.

Alderwood principal Suzanne Baier sent a letter home to families the day after the emergency expulsion and explained the situation. She conveyed the importance of parents, students and people in the community letting the schools know when they hear of suspicious activity.
