United Way of King County was scheduled Thursday, April 15, to honor 16 companies and individuals during the Spirit of Caring awards ceremony at the Seattle Marriott Grand Pacific Ballroom. The awards honor outstanding contributions to United Way of King County’s 2003-2004 annual campaign and to the community.

Culled from nearly 200 nominations, the 16 recipients were to be recognized in eight categories that include overall campaign excellence, workplaces that promote individual giving of $1,000 or more from employees, most significant campaign growth, workplaces that consistently conduct outstanding campaigns, labor unions with outstanding member participation, best first-year campaigns and campaign coordinators of the year.

Volunteering was honored with the presentation of the Volunteer of the Year and Outstanding Employee Volunteer Program awards. A special United Way of America Federal Partner of the Year was also presented to Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., for her work on health and human services issues.

Seattle celebrity Pat Cashman emceed the event with United Way of King County 2003-2004 campaign chair Howard Lincoln and President/CEO Jon Fine on hand to honor nominees and winners. Lincoln is CEO of the Seattle Mariners and a longtime United Way of King County supporter.

“We’re pleased to have this opportunity to honor companies that make our community stronger,” Fine said.
