Use property for park, ferry lanes

Let’s think outside of the box!

Do we need another condominium mix/used project at the Waterfront?

The city purchased the open space at the Old Milltown for a fair market value.

The city purchased the vacant land from Unocal for a fair market value.

Why can’t the city purchase some of the land from Dykes at a fair market value and develop the land with funding in place from the Feds, WST and WSF and making the holding lanes necessary to stop the bottleneck up 104. In this regard, the ferry won’t have to move three miles, which makes no sense as not only will it kill downtown merchants’ businesses, but will cost us taxpayers money from cost overruns, as nothing is ever fully funded. The land for the Edmonds Crossing Project can be used to create a “futurist” waterfront park with ample parking and amenities for all of citizens and dog owners of Edmonds to enjoy.

So rather than concentrating on developing Dykes’ waterfront area, let’s concentrate on developing the old Unocal land waterfront. My plea to City Council, the Port of Edmonds, and the mayor is to stop listening to developers and look at existing infrastructure to make it work. Kingston is a great example. Why can’t we create the same type of holding pattern? This idea makes a lot more sense than spending millions of dollars to move the ferry approximately three miles which actually is farther away from the train station and local downtown merchants.
