The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council presents “The Library: A Physiological Study” as part of 4Culture’s King County Site-Specific Performance Network series Sunday, Jan. 28 in the Den at Third Place Books.
Libraries are places to wander and wonder. They invite us to lose ourselves in new ideas and new ways of thinking. As repositories of culture they remind us of where we come from and who we are. They are places rife with possibilities; you never know what you might learn.
Stokley Towles will bring the “voices” of books alive, and delve into the questions and histories beyond the volumes. The humorous, historically accurate stories depicted in this presentation explore the particular ways that individuals have interacted with books since words were first etched into clay. The performance also explores how patrons interact with the library.
Through interviews with Seattle Public Library librarians, Towles learned that patrons ask questions in seasonal patterns. For instance, in September, patrons of all ages ask, “Where is the serious literature?” The change in season triggers that back to school feeling and the desire to learn.
Site Specific Performance Art Presentations are sponsored by the Shoreline-Lake Forest Arts Council, Third Place Books and 4Culture King County Site Specific Performance Network. This event is rescheduled from Nov. 28, due to snow.
