In honor of Valentine’s Day, I think we need to recognize some who bring heart to the city of Lynnwood. There are so many organizations and individuals that give this community heart but I would like to recognize one organization and one individual that deserve special recognition this year.
Marie Little retired from the Historic Commission at the end of last year. She was instrumental in getting the Historic Commission started and she has served as the voice for historic preservation for the city of Lynnwood for at least two decades. While few things are accomplished alone, I think it is fair to say that Lynnwood’s Heritage Park would not exist without her advocacy and commitment.
Second, I want to recognize the South Snohomish County Shelter Network. This is an organization sponsored by several local churches. They organized last summer to provide shelter for individuals who were homeless when temperatures dipped below freezing. This December they opened their doors and graciously provided warm and safe shelter service for 14 straight days. As our winter continues to be unseasonably cold, they have been of service several more times and stand ready should the need arise again. We all wish this service was not necessary, but I want to thank and recognize all the individuals and institutions that supported this important and humane work.
