After a two-month hiatus, hearings on the proposed Mill Creek Wal-Mart store will resume next week.
On May 31, the Snohomish County Hearing Examiner continued the hearings on the proposed store because The McNaughton Group, one of two organizations that appealed the decision to grant building permits, requested flexibility in locating a road connecting with 39th Avenue SE, a street that would be extended to serve the new store. The street may impact nearby wetlands. McNaughton is a developer building homes south of the proposed Wal-Mart site.
McNaughton and Citizens for a Better Mill Creek are appealing the decision to grant building permits. Even if the hearing examiner allows the store to proceed, Citizens for a Better Mill Creek plan to appeal such a ruling in Snohomish County Superior Court.
A final verdict on whether or not construction can proceed will not come until mid-August at the earliest, unless the hearing examiner continues the proceedings.
The hearings resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the County Administrative Building East, 3000 Rockefeller Ave. in Everett.
The store is proposed for the site of a former buffalo farm on 132nd Street SE across the street from Archbishop Murphy High School.
