The holidays seem an especially important time to help our friends and neighbors in need. Every year, The Enterprise runs a list of groups and organizations that help those needy people and could use your donations of goods, time and money.

Clothes for Kids, 16725 52nd Ave. W., Lynnwood, provides two wardrobes of new and like-new clothing a year for eligible children. This year it needs underwear, socks, pajamas, night gowns, robes, slippers, gloves, mittens, scarves, umbrellas and backpacks; 425-670-7285.

Edmonds Community College Foundation, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood, works with the college to provide educational opportunities through scholarships, support and advocacy. Every winter the foundation receives requests from students living on tight budgets who may need help to pay rent or a utility bill, buy textbooks or pay for child care. The foundation offers emergency scholarships so students can continue their education. Lynnwood Food Bank, 5326 176th St. SW, Lynnwood, serving residents in Lynnwood, is accepting donations of nonperishable food and cash to buy bulk food items. Checks should be made to The Lynnwood Food Bank; 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; 425-745-1635.

Pathways for Women YWCA, 6027 208th St. SW, Lynnwood, provides shelter and housing, family support groups and community services for women and families in need. Pathways needs sponsors for holiday meals and gifts, new gifts for children from infants to teens, new and gently used gifts for parents (to be given by their children), gently used winter coats, hats, mittens, scarves for infants to teens and adult women. PAWS, Progressive Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 1037, Lynnwood, provides services for animals through direct care, education and legislation. It relies on donations to carry out its work. Donations can be made on-line at www.paws.org. Other needs include canned dog and cat food, Costco brand dry dog and cat food, Advantage topical flea treatment, nonclumping cat litter and litter pans, bleach, gift certificates from Lowes, Home Depot and Fred Meyer, Vari-kennels dog and cat kennels, latex gloves, heating pads, heat lamps without metal shade, and Pedialyte and Ensure; 425-787-2500.

Public Education Foundation of the Edmonds School District helps students and teachers in the Edmonds School District. Items needed include used Legos, building products such as Capsela, Fisher Techic, used marbles, clay pots, National Geographic magazines, used footballs, basketballs and playground balls, new colored pencils, school supplies, calculators, rulers, four subscriptions to National Geographic magazine, headphones for computers, packages of sugar, flour, Rice Krispies and new or used musical instruments. The Lynnwood branch of Widowed Information and Consultation Services of Snohomish County, 1502 Walnut St. Everett, needs money to help provide services for widowed people, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Address: P.O. Box 1554, Everett, 98206-1554.

Windermere Real Estate, 4211 Alderwood Mall Blvd., Suite 110, Lynnwood, in conjunction with Windermere Foundation, will adopt 10 families through Deaconess Children’s Services in Everett. It is looking for people who would like to help in the adopt-a-family program in Lynnwood, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace. Windermere is also seeking towels, linen and cash for its Home for the Holidays campaign. Donations will be collected at Windermere locations; call Barbara King at 425-776-1119, ext. 245.

Sound Styles of Edmonds, 100 Fifth Ave. N., Edmonds, is collecting wish list items for TEENHOPE shelter, a DSHS licensed emergency shelter that serves children 13 through 17 years old in Snohomish and King counties. It needs 35 mm film, AAA and AA batteries, cash, stamps, movie passes, movies, phone cards, bike locks and helmets, pillows, bus passes, three-ring binders, sheets, mattress pads and gift certificates. Drop-off hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays through December; 425-771-4111.

Timberline Park, a cul-de-sac in Brier on the 3700 and 3800 blocks of 228th Place SW, will host its annual Christmas Light Display of Christmas scenes, Frosty the Snowman and Santa. Nonperishable food and cash will be collected for the Lynnwood Food Bank. Lights are on from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday from Nov. 29 through Jan. 1.

Food Lifeline, 1702 NE 150th St., Shoreline, 98155-7266, distributes food to 253 nonprofit agencies to feed more than 600,000 hungry people in Western Washington.
