Wesco honors top fall sports performers

Three key pieces of the Shorecrest volleyball team that placed third at the Class 3A state tournament were rewarded with first-team, all-league honors.

Senior middle hitter Becky Scherer, freshman setter Anna Herold and senior libero Lauren Herold were each named to the all-Western Conference South Division first team.

In girls soccer, Shorecrest defender Jessica Jakubiak and Shorewood goalkeeper Cara Edmund were first-team selections. Sarah Smart and Hayley Zevenbergen of King’s were also first-team picks for Lynnwood and Edmonds-Woodway, respectively.

In boys tennis, Shorewood’s Sachin Narvekar, Scott Bourne, Steve McCall, Nomar Mapalo and Aaron Lee earned first-team honors by placing in the top four at the Wesco 4A South Division singles and doubles tournaments.

Shorecrest’s Jonathan Tat, Jordan Haminishi and Brian Cheung also received all-league boys tennis recognition by earning No. 1 seeds to the Northwest District 3A championships.

In cross country, Shorewood teammates Hannah Vietmeier and Rachel Botham and Shorecrest runner Eden Weldetsnae received first-team recognition for their top-seven finish at the league meet.

In girls swimming and diving, Leanne Dull of King’s was a first-team selection for Shorewood along with diver Kelsey Wright.
