Where are outdoor Nativity decorations?

It seems to be unfashionable, distasteful or an embarrassment to proclaim Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I went in search of outside decorations I once could buy, like “Joy to the World!,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “A Savior Is Born,” or “Peace on Earth and Goodwill Toward Men.” It seems they no longer sell those types of decorations, as I found nothing but snowmen, elves, reindeer and, of course, Santa Claus, and cartoon characters for a commercialized Christmas.

Even the churches seem to have eliminated outside decorations of angels, wise men, camels, the star of Bethlehem, and Mary with baby Jesus. Vandalism may be a reason for this? But it left me with a great sadness. Our nation founded by our Christian forefathers and “God’s Great Spiritual Awakening” that swept into colonial America, producing heroic patriots to fight for religious freedom, should ourselves slide so far away in our efforts to welcome and make comfortable those of other religions, by visibly denying Christ during Christmas.

May we pray that 2010 will produce another of “God’s Great Spiritual Awakenings”!
