Where do you love to go for that romantic date?

From the first dinner date, to the spot where THE question is popped, to a restaurant where milestone anniversaries are celebrated, South Snohomish County eateries provide an intimate setting for a romantic encounter.

For the traditionalists, white tablecloth restaurants are the classic selection for a romantic meal. Lobster to steak, area spots offer menus to fit most palates. To punctuate the special evening, make a reservation and be sure to let the restaurant know the purpose for your visit so that they can help you make the evening the sweetest ever.

Some people prefer tried-and-true family favorites for romantic dining. They are comfortable with the restaurant, the spot has memory and meaning, and frequent diners know where everything is.

Others find take-out fish and chips on the beach one of the most intimate occasions ever. A picnic hamper stuffed with supermarket deli items taken to a wooded glen or grassy knoll also are spots to spot sweethearts.

If you choose a restaurant for your romantic excursion, be sure to ask for what you need – a secluded table, a table with a view, service for a special bottle of wine you will bring from home.

South County, blessed with its seaside location, also features a plethora of dining locations that feature the sweeping Sound and mountain views dotted with ferry boats.

Those same boats may provide an additional outing for couples after dinner. With the sun, or moon, shimmering on the water and the snow-capped mountains providing a backdrop, romance is in the air.

Where does romance lead you? What are the best dining spots for sweethearts? Which restaurants have gone the extra mile for that special touch?

Stricker’s Cafe in Lynnwood is a great place to take your loved one. It’s a small, intimate place with great food and service.

A view is always romantic. I like Arnie’s and the Beach Cafe in Edmonds and Emory’s on Silver Lake especially on the deck or patio just before sunset.

David, Lynnwood

My wife likes old-school French dining, so we sometimes go to Charles at Smugglers Cove in Mukilteo for the view and the intimate setting of the old house the restaurant is in.

Bruce, Edmonds

Life is busy so I catch romance when I can. Even grabbing a happy hour in a corner booth, or a late lunch with my husband can be special.

Betty, Lynnwood

Canlis Restaurant in Seattle. My wife and I celebrated our one-year dating anniversary there before I popped the question.

Pete, Lynnwood

Ivar’s on the Mukilteo Waterfront offers a great view, drinks and food.
