The Archbishop Murphy softball team clinched a 2A District 1 playoff berth on April 30.

And they only needed six innings to do it.

The Wildcats defeated Lakewood 11-1 in six innings in a Cascade Conference game at Archbishop Murphy High School to secure their place in the postseason.

“I know we’re going to districts,” Archbishop Murphy coach Linsi Moy said. “Don’t know where. But we’re going.”

The Wildcats scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game because of the 10-run rule.

“The hits just kept going,” Moy said.

Archbishop Murphy had four hits, three walks and took advantage of a couple of errors in the final inning.

The Wildcats rallied behind Kayelynne Huggins (7-2), who pitched all six innings, striking out 11 batters and walking none.

Huggins also batted 2-for-3.

Makayla Sybrand (2-for-4) and Kristin Ehlebracht each had a double and three RBI apiece for Archbishop Murphy.

“The girls had very good momentum,” Moy said. “They started slow but picked it up and started going.

“It was a team effort offensively and defensively.”
