Edmonds-Woodway poured it on in the second quarter en route to an easy victory against Shorewood in a Western Conference 4A South Division football game.
Junior quarterback Andy Willcock completed 8 of 17 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a 41-17 victory Oct. 31 at Edmonds Stadium.
Edmonds-Woodway took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Willcock threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Din Kuses. The Thunderbirds then tied the score early in the second quarter when Luke Nelson caught a 37-yard pass from quarterback Nathan Jeannot.
The Warriors (5-1 in the league, 7-2 overall) then exploded for 27 unanswered points to take a 34-7 lead at halftime.
Willcock and Kuses hooked up on TD passes of 29 and 17 yards and the Edmonds-Woodway quarterback also ran for a 15-yard score. Noah Martin also had a 64-yard touchdown run.
Michael Indaleclo scored on a 13-yard run in the third quarter for the Warriors. Martin finished with 112 yards on eight carries.
Senior running back/linebacker Tony Heard did not play but is expected back for the next game.
Edmonds-Woodway, the South Division’s No. 2 seed, will face Kentwood at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7 at French Field in Kent in a quad-district playoff game.
ROYALS, HAWKS FALL: Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace both came up short in their respective football games against Sedro Woolley and Kamiak. The Royals lost 66-6 in a non-confernence game. Lynnwood’s offense could only muster 99 yards on the ground and 58 through the air. The Royals fell to 0-4 in the league and 0-9 overall.
Mountlake Terrace also struggled offensively in a 24-3 loss to Kamiak in a Wesco 4A South Division game. The Hawks’ offense generated 181 total yards. Mountlake Terrace quarterback Brandyn Eckart ran for 114 yards on 13 carries. The Hawks are 1-5 in the league and 3-6 overall.
MAVERICKS WIN DISTRICT TENNIS TITLE: The Meadowdale boys tennis team captured the 3A Northwest District 1 championship Oct. 30 at Mount Vernon High School. Sophomore Alex Casper took first place in the singles tournament, beating Shorecrest’s Jason Hollenbach-Landraitus 6-3, 6-3. Teammate Scott Bohmke, who defeated Casper in the Wesco 3A singles final a week earlier, finished third and is the alternate to the state tournament.
Meadowdale seniors Christopher Johnson and Andrew Olson placed second in doubles by rallying for a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) victory over a Ferndale duo.
Teammates Nathan Shields and Jace Sherrill finished fifth.
“A great team efffort by all six qualifiers,” said Meadowdale coach Mark Schneider, who added that it is his understanding that it is the school’s first district title since 1985.
Edmonds-Woodway’s Ryan Warren and Ian Southcote-Want finished second in doubles at the 4A District 1 tournament. The Warrior duo lost to Shorewood’s Tristan Reni and Scott McConnell 6-2, 6-1 in the finals Oct. 30 at Stanwood High School.
