The Jackson girls golf team isn’t letting its youth get in the way.

Even with only a pair of seniors, the Timberwolves have been more than competitive this season, finishing either first or second in most of their matches.

“Overall the season has been pretty good,” said Jackson coach Jason Gadel, who previously was the assistant coach. “We’re just kind of trying to feel how things are going to go.”

Freshman Laura Gay is the team’s No. 1 player. Gay brings plenty of experience to the Timberwolves.

“She’s an all around player,” Gadel said. “She has a good understanding of the game. She golfs a lot outside of school time. She knows the ins and outs of the game.”

Gay has finished in the top five in most of the matches.

Junior Lindsey Roberts is close behind Gay. Roberts is the only varsity returner from last year. She only started playing the sport within the last couple of years.

“Even though she’s new to the game, she obviously has picked it up pretty well,” Gadel said.

Another freshman, Taylor Mackay, rounds out Jackson’s top three.

“I’m looking forward to seeing where the team is headed in the coming years,” Gadel said.

Jackson should be able to qualify five players to the district tournament.

“It would be awesome to get a girl or two to state,” Gadel said. “Ability-wise, any of those top three have the ability to put up scores to get to state.”
