A 27-year-old Oak Harbor woman has been charged with third-degree assault after a Sept. 23 confrontation with Mill Creek police.
According to Mill Creek police, the woman, Jamie Boyd, was pulled over for an expired vehicle license and driving with a suspended license at 7:20 a.m. in the 18300 block of the Bothell-Everett Highway. She refused to cooperate with officer Sean Conner, according to the police report, and he called for backup.
Even after officer Michael Reidt arrived, Boyd allegedly refused to cooperate with the officers. Later, an officer who was not identified in police reports tried to physically remove Boyd from her vehicle, and she began assaulting the officers by punching and scratching them, according to the report.
Officers eventually subdued Boyd with pepper spray, and she was arrested and taken to the Snohomish County Jail. Both officers suffered minor injuries.
Police spokesperson Becky Erk said such incidents do happen to Mill Creek officers, but not frequently.
“Some people are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or they have warrants for their arrest, and they just don’t want to go to jail,” Erk said. “Everyone has a different reason for resisting arrest.”
Boyd was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident, Erk said.
Attorneys with the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Boyd on Friday, Sept. 26, and she has already appeared twice in Snohomish County Superior Court. Third-degree assault is a gross misdemeanor.
Boyd is still being detained in the jail on $5,000 bail.
