MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Work crews are digging into the roadway to prepare for a street overlay along 56th Avenue and 236th Street, which should be finished by late October.
The crews are repairing anything that needs attention underground before they put down the new roadway, traffic engineer Kirk Roberts explained.
The road overlay will occur along 56th Avenue, from 236th Street to 244th Street, as well as along 236th Street, from 56th Avenue to the Mountlake Terrace Park’n’Ride near Interstate 5. The contractor is Wilder Construction of Everett.
Workers will start grinding off the old roadway around Sept. 12, which creates a rough surface.
The $965,000 project is primarily funded by the city. That total includes a $200,000 grant from the Federal Highways Administration to build access ramps at the crosswalks for wheelchair users.
