The Wrestling Rhino Club is hosting a freestyle all-star dual tournament tomorrow (Saturday, May 20) at Jackson High School.
Wrestlers from across the state will be representing one of six sections (zones) of the state. The state has been divided into four zones on the west side of the Cascades and two zones on the east side. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.
The Rhinos as the tournament host selected the coaches of each zone, but the coaches were responsible for selecting their teams. Each of the six zones has a 22-person roster. Of the 132 wrestlers in the tournament, 57 of them placed at last year’s state tournament. Of the 57 placers, 30 of them were state finalists in their respective weight classes. Twenty of the wrestlers competing in the tournament won a state title.
The Rhino Club has elected to have admission to the tournament be donations to one of two beneficiaries. The club is accepting canned food donations for the local food bank or a cash donation that will go to help fund the Washington state cadet and junior national teams that will compete in Fargo this summer. Most of the wrestlers competing in the event will be the ones benefiting from the cash donations.
