LAKE FOREST PARK – Seattle crime writer Ann Rule was honored for her writing achievements and contribution to crime prevention and awareness at a ceremony held Nov. 8 at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park.
Rep. John Lovick (D-Mill Creek) presented an honorary House Resolution before an audience of more than 180 people at the bookstore. Lovick is prime sponsor of the resolution.
“As a law enforcement officer, I deeply appreciate Ann’s lifetime commitment to criminal justice in Washington,” said Lovick, who is also a Washington State Patrol officer. “Her extensive background in law enforcement, combined with her extraordinary writing skill, has allowed her to make a unique and valuable contribution to our state.”
Rule has earned distinction as one of the most respected writers of true crime stories in America. Twenty of her books have made the New York Times’ bestseller list, including her latest release, “Heart Full of Lies.” A former Seattle police officer, Rule has testified as an expert witness before Congress, and regularly presents seminars to law enforcement agencies.
House Resolution 4615 was adopted during the 2003 legislative session by unanimous voice vote of the House of Representatives. Lovick said support for the resolution was so widespread among legislators, he ran out of space for co-sponsors to sign on to the measure.
Mill Creek resident Chuck Wright, an advocate for victims of violent crime and an avid fan of Rule, facilitated the event. Wright is a licensed mental health counselor, and a past president of Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims.
