SEATTLE -- Karinn Dickinson of Mukilteo pulled away from a second-round tie to win the 19th annual Washington State Women's Amateur golf championship Thursday by a whopping seven strokes at Rainier Golf and Country Club.
Dickinson, a 2007 graduate of Kamiak High School and a four-year member of the University of Washington women's golf team, began her day with a bogey on the first hole, "but I actually had hit the ball well," she said. "And I knew there were going to be a lot of bogeys out there by the other (players), so it really didn't fluster me."
Despite other bogeys, Dickinson had birdies on four holes and finished with a 6-over-par round of 79 and a three-day total of 11-over 230.
Second place was a tie between Mallory Kent of Tukwila and Kristen Rue of Gig Harbor. Both were at 18-over 237.
Kimberly Santiago of Lynnwood tied for seventh with a three-round total of 22-over 241.
Yasue Alkins of Lacey won the state Senior Women's Amateur title by four strokes over Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C. Alkins had a three-day total of 112-over 234.
