Former county deputy convicted of burglary

SEATTLE — A jury on Thursday convicted a former Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy of burglary.

James Hager was charged in November in King County Superior Court after allegations surfaced that he stole a wood-burning stove, stove pipe and some cedar flooring from a vacation home in the Skykomish area. He was off-duty at the time.

Hager was placed on administrative leave and then fired in January. An internal investigation revealed that Hager had violated sheriff’s department policies, a spokeswoman said. He had been a deputy for six years.

A King County jury convicted Hager of second-degree burglary. He faces up to three months in jail. Hager is expected to be sentenced next month. No date for that hearing has been set.
