Techies campaign for president

The Internet's role in presidential campaign has grown tremendously in each of the last three election years - 2000, 2004 and now 2008.
But the visibility of tech gurus in the campaigns is especially apparent right now. On McCain's side, there's Carly Fiorina, the former head of Hewlett-Packard. Obama's got a co-founder of Facebook.com on his side.
First on Fiorina: Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank describes her breakfast with the media and supporters. The LA Times also has a report from that event. The Financial Times looks at her prospects for landing a job in the White House.
Chris Hughes, the Facebook co-founder, is profiled in this New York Times piece. The story looks at how the vast Web operation of that campaign has been especially reaching out to younger voters.
Perhaps because of that, Obama seems to have the advantage on the Web over his rival. During May, at least, Obama's Web site saw four times more visitors than McCain's Web site, according to online ratings.
There are plenty of partisan political Web sites and blogs to visit, but in the spirit of nonpartisanship or bipartisanship, here are two of my favorites that cover both sides: Politico.com and RealClearPolitics.com.
