Everett takes shoreline plan to public

EVERETT — Residents here will have a chance to shape the future of their waterfront.
The Everett Planning Commission has added an open house to the schedule of public meetings about the proposed changes to the Shoreline Master Program.
The shoreline plan regulates development of Everett’s waterfront, attempting to balance environmental protection with development.
Also, the location of the hearings has been changed to provide a larger meeting space.
Here’s the revised schedule for updating the plan:
Thursday: (Open House, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. at the Everett Public Library Auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave., for the public to review the information, ask questions and comment on the proposed changes.
Nov. 14: Planning Commission Public Hearing, 6:30 p.m. at the Everett Performing Arts Theater, 2710 Wetmore Ave. Public testimony will be taken on the proposed changes. This hearing will focus on issues related to the Port of Everett, including live-aboards, although testimony on other issues will be permitted.
Nov. 28: Planning Commission Public Hearing, 6:30 p.m. at the Everett Performing Arts Theater, 2710 Wetmore Ave. This meeting will focus on issues relating to the riverfront properties, including the Simpson and the east Everett ball fields sites, although testimony may be provided on other issues.
Nov. 30: End of comment period.
Dec. 5: Planning Commission discussion of document and revisions, 6:30 p.m. at the city of Everett Hearing Room, 2930 Wetmore Ave., Room 8C.
Dec. 8: Staff finalizes the document.
Dec. 12: Planning Commission adopts the document with revisions, 6:30 p.m. at the city of Everett Hearing Room.
Copies of the document are available for review at the Everett Planning Department, 2930 Wetmore Ave., Suite 8A, and both branches of the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. and 9512 Evergreen Way.
Copies may be purchased for $5 at the Planning Department.
Comments may be submitted to the Everett Planning Commission at the above address or given at the public hearings.
