MUKILTEO – A mentally impaired man who had been missing for five days was found dead Wednesday, Everett police Lt. Pete Hegge said.
He appeared to have died from natural causes, Hegge said. The body was found behind a restaurant in the 700 block of Front Street.
“He’s been in failing health,” Hegge said.
The 45-year-old man left his Everett home in the 4900 block of Seaview Way on Friday evening. He hadn’t been seen since, Sgt. Pete Grassi said.
Police said the man had no short-term or long-term memory, was prone to seizures and liked water. Police had used a helicopter Wednesday to search for him along waterfront areas in Everett.
Police did not suspect foul play, Grassi said. The man had wandered away before, but had not been gone for so long.
Everett investigators had asked Mukilteo police to look for him because the man liked to go there, Hegge said. The man frequently had walked away from the care center where he lived.
The Snohomish County medical examiner is expected to perform an autopsy, police said. The man’s identity has been confirmed, but his name was being withheld until relatives were notified of his death.
Bank robbery: A gunman wearing a fake mustache and a large, fake nose robbed a bank of an undisclosed amount of money Wednesday.
The robbery occurred about 2:30 p.m. at City Bank in the 20600 block of Bothell-Everett Highway, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. The man entered the bank, demanded money from a teller, indicating he had a gun. The teller complied, and he fled, driving away in a blue Eagle Talon with a sunroof, Jorgensen said.
Witnesses last saw him driving northbound on Highway 527. Deputies checked the license plate on the car, which had been stolen in Seattle.
Deputies described the robber as aggressive in demeanor and said the robbery appeared to have been planned. Witnesses described the gunman as a white male, about 5 feet 9 inches, 170 pounds, wearing light-blue coveralls, a white shirt, a half mask with a fake mustache and large nose attached. He also wore a fisherman’s cap pulled down.
Detectives and the FBI are investigating, and ask anyone with information on the robber to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
Bank robbery: A man robbed a Washington Credit Union branch of an undisclosed amount of cash Tuesday.
The robbery occurred about 1:25 p.m. in the 11000 block of Evergreen Way. A man entered the bank and demanded cash from tellers, who complied. He escaped on foot and last was seen running southbound on Evergreen Way, police said.
There were no injuries.
The robber displayed no weapon, although the note he handed a teller indicated he had a gun, Everett police Lt. Bill Deckard said.
Witnesses described the robber as white, 40 to 50 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches, 150 to 160 pounds with collar-length dark hair, police said. He was wearing large, round-framed glasses, a crew-neck sweat shirt, jeans and a light colored cotton hat with a dark band.
Anyone with information should call detective Matt Myers at 425-257-8482 or the police tip line at 425- 257-8450.
Car accident: A Burlington woman was listed in stable condition Tuesday after a crash on I-5 near Mill Creek.
Nancy K. Short, 22, was at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus with unspecified injuries.
The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Monday on the freeway southbound at 164th Street. According to the Washington State Patrol, Short attempted to pass an unknown vehicle when the other vehicle moved in front of Short and she lost control of her car and went off the road to the right. A 1991 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Bernard G. Yperman, 51, of Maple Valley, collided with Short’s vehicle.
The third vehicle left the scene.
Short’s 1988 Honda was destroyed. Troopers estimated damage to Yperman’s Suburban at $2,000.
