Umpires acted without forethought

I wanted to comment on the ridiculous episode concerning the earrings of Seattle Mariners pitcher Arthur Rhodes. Not too long ago we played a team whose pitcher had on a heavy silver necklace with the number 36 swinging back and forth until it was irritating and distracting to even myself. I know the announcers were aware of the distraction because they commented as to whether it should have been allowed. It should have been tucked inside of his shirt at least. Once again the umpires reacted arbitrarily and without forethought.
