Global warming still a serious problem

It’s evident to me that Bush’s campaign promise to take action on global warming was a cynical lie to avoid losing votes in a close election. If he had revealed his true position on the environment he wouldn’t have won the election, and he knew it. Bush adopted the expedient, popular position for the campaign.

The vast majority of Americans see global warming as a serious problem that shouldn’t be ignored. It looks like the most that we can expect from this White House is lip service, or as Secretary Whitman put it ” We need to appear engaged”. Those who hoped that the new President would be honest, and ethical should be sadly disappointed. We are about to squander a historic opportunity.
