Are teacher salaries in line with business?

Has anyone considered doing some kind of detailed analysis of the various school districts to find out why they are having teacher strikes? Has anyone from the press or an accounting firm looked at the budgets to see if the expenses for teacher salaries are in line with what a business in the private sector expects to pay for similarly skilled employees?

Why does everything in this country that matters to anyone have to be small enough to fit on a sign?
