What’s coming back in the bag?

Sailors shared what they will be bringing home as souvenirs from the USS Abraham Lincoln’s 291-day deployment:

  • "A didgeridoo in Australia. It’s an aborigine meditation device. It’s about 6 feet tall; it’s got a snake carved in it. It sounds like the Predator (a creature in an action movie), kind of ‘wah-aah, wah-aaah, wah-aaaah!’ " — Petty Officer 3rd Class Justin Hernandez, Lafayette, La.

  • "I just have the leis from Hawaii. Those are always my favorite." — Petty Officer 3rd Class Michelene Bielecki, Wilkes Barre, Penn.

  • "I just got a lot of postcards, of Bahrain and every port we hit, Singapore, Hong Kong. Australia. They’re fast and thoughtful." — Airman April Devere, Salina, Kan.

  • "Everything from boomerangs from Australia, Persian rugs, little knick-knacks. I was shocked they (rugs from Bahrain) were $250. The wife kind of said a couple words at me." — Airman Johnney Mason, Waxahachie, Texas.

  • "I got gold from overseas, a gold chain necklace. Foreign money." — Petty Officer 3rd Class Simon Cody, Lafayette, La.

  • "I bought some patches from all the squadrons." — Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonette Allen, Houston, Texas.

  • "Shot glasses, some from Hong Kong. I got a beer mug from Hooters in Singapore. I’ve always had a thing for Hooters girls." — Airman Jon Silva, Santa Cruz, Calif.
