Tom and Shawn Hoban, co-founders and owners of Everett-based Coast Real Estate Services, jointly received this year’s Person of the Year award from the University of Notre Dame Alumni Club. Both Tom Hoban, Coast Real Estate’s chief executive officer, and Shawn Hoban, president of the company, earned bachelor’s degrees in business and finance from Notre Dame. Tom Hoban graduated in 1984; Shawn Hoban finished in 1988. Coast manages more than $1 billion in commercial and multifamily properties around Puget Sound.
Joan Sperandio and Spyder Webb of the Everett AquaSox front office are receiving awards from the Northwest League. Sperandio, co-owner and vice president of the baseball team, has been named the league’s Woman Executive of the Year. Webb, the team’s trainer, is receiving the Joe Martin Award for his 25 years of service as a team trainer for short-season teams affiliated with the Seattle Mariners.
Jennifer Graham, a veterinary specialist for exotic pets, recently joined the Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Lynnwood. She specializes in birds, ferrets, rabbits and other small mammals, and reptiles at the clinic, which is run by Pet’s Choice Inc. of Bellevue.
Tom Lasswell of Mill Creek is the new senior vice president and branch manager of Gold Savings Bank’s mortgage office in Everett. A native of the Puget Sound area, Lasswell previously was a senior lending consultant and planner for First Horizon Home Loans.
Kerry Ellison of Everett recently passed the American Association of Medical Assistants’ exam to become a certified medical assistant. A graduate of Eton Technical Institute’s program, Ellison is working at The Everett Clinic.
Sodaney Prom and Scott Swanson of StockPot Inc. have won the company’s highest awards for 2003. Prom, who works on the purchasing team for the soup company near Maltby, received the Jathor Saesee Memorial Employee of the Year award. Swanson, manager of operations at StockPot, was named the company’s Entrepreneur of the Year.
It’s a New Day Preschool and Child Care is the name of a new home-based business in south Everett. Owner Judy Stender said she has 28 years of child care experience; eight years as a licensed family day care provider and 20 years working in other child care centers. She also was a director or program supervisor at three different centers. Stender is licensed to care for 10 children over the age of 3, and has adopted a curriculum that aims to help students’ developmental skills. "Partnerships: An Essential Component in a Challenging Environment" is the theme of the Human Services Council’s annual forum. It will be 7-10:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel, 3105 Pine St., Everett. The Japanese Cultural and Resource Center at Everett Community College’s Nippon Business Institute will dedicate a new Japanese garden and bridge at 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at 905 Wetmore Ave. The public event will include a performance by members of a delegation from Everett’s sister city, Iwakuni City in western Japan, and a tour of the garden. The new garden, which forms the entryway to the Nippon Business Institute, includes a portion of Iwakuni City’s arched bridge.
Pacific Ridge Homes of Everett has launched the "Building for Today-Building for Tomorrow" charity program and named the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as the first beneficiary. The company hopes to donate more than $100,000 to the center by making a $1,000 donation for every home that’s purchased before construction begins in one of Pacific Ridge’s new developments. So far this year, Pacific Ridge has built nearly 200 houses in Snohomish County, and it recently broke ground on four new subdivisions. The Northwest Radiologic Technology Consortium, a joint effort of Everett Community College, Bellingham Technical College and other participating community colleges and health care employers, has earned a good idea award from the state Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board. The program, which now is training 30 students, teaches displaced workers to be radiology technicians. Providence Everett Medical Center, The Everett Clinic and Edmonds Community College are among the other partners in the program.
The Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development is accepting nominations for its annual Economic Development Awards through Wednesday. Nominations are encouraged for individuals, organizations, communities, regions and agencies that have made significant contributions to economic development efforts.
