Criticism of kids’ slang lacks logic

Published 9:00 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2005

I was aghast to read the statements by Diana Plumis (the principal at a high school I now shudder to name) who pointed out to all of us what a lecherous potty-mouth Santa Claus is (“‘Snoho’ slang not cool, says school,” Thursday). Shame on him!

And shame on the people at Hostess for the vulgar name they chose for those chocolate treats. I now understand what the trailmasters were heading westward for in all those old movies; call the FCC! And all those artisans in that one district in New York are apparently not just artists, they’re also “women of negotiable virtue.” I didn’t know. Disney’s seven dwarfs were singing about sex and drugs on their way to work and we were all in the dark until Diana Plumis came along to enlighten us.

I have a question for Diana. How can a gung-ho educator like herself make a statement like, “There’s a real difference between the word ‘Snoho’ and ‘Snohos’”? Is this the kind of logic people are paying for?
