Healing the Children, a group that brings children from around the world to the United States for medical treatment, needs temporary homes for a teenager from Iran and a child from Iraq.

Saleh Modenpour, 17, has a bone condition that has left him unable to walk. He is undergoing treatment at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. When his surgery is complete, he will likely be able to walk again.

Saleh was staying with a host family before his first surgery in December, but their situation changed and they could no longer care for him.

Healing the Children, www.healingthe children.org, also needs a host family for a 4-year-old boy from Iraq who needs treatment for a bullet wound to the head from the war. He cannot obtain a travel visa until he has a host family.

Families sought with autistic kids

One hundred families with two or more autistic children are needed for a continuing University of Washington study.

The $10.2 million study, designed to find causes of autism, is funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. To be eligible, families must have two or more children at least 3 years old who have autism. Eligible children may be of adult age.

Members of the research team will arrange for diagnostic evaluation and testing of children prior to participation in the study. Call 800-994-9701.
