The Snohomish County-based Riverdawgs U-16 baseball team won its super regional last month to earn a spot in the upcoming AAU Junior Olympics.

The Junior Olympic tournament is scheduled for July 28 through Aug. 5 in Virginia.

The Riverdawgs posted a 6-0 record at the super regional in the Bothell-Kenmore area, including a 13-3 victory over the Dow Baseball Club in the championship game on June 25.

Members of the Riverdawgs team included Alex Austin, Frankie Nelson, Joey Pulitano and Ben Nelson of Lake Stevens; Alex Ash, Fabrice Lays and Max Dragich of Arlington; Ryan Botham, Ben Grinnell, Alex Bruun and Mike Gange of Marysville; Brandon LeMieux of Everett, and Nate Mullins of Snohomish.

Pitch, hit and run: Troy Davis, 12, and Kyle Smith, 14, both of Arlington, placed fourth in their respective age divisions at the Pitch, Hit and Run Team Championship hosted by the Seattle Mariners on June 18 at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Davis and Smith advanced to Safeco Field by placing first in their local competitions, then winning their divisions at the sectionals, which were held June 3 in Edmonds.

Speed Skating

Brashler qualifies for nationals: Bailey Brashler of Arlington qualified for the National Inline Speed Skating Championships with her performance June 17-18 at the regionals in Portland, Ore.

Brashler, competing in the tiny-tot division for skaters ages 6 and younger, won the 300-meter race, placed second in the 200 and third in the 100. That gave her enough points to place second overall and earn a trip to the nationals, which are scheduled for July 15-23 in Lincoln, Neb.
