The Everett-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which returned Tuesday from a lengthy deployment, will go into dry-dock next month for repair and system upgrades, according to a spokesman from Todd Pacific Shipyard in Seattle.

The work will be done at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton by Todd, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., announced Friday.

The $10.9 million job is expected to be complete in March, Todd spokesman Steve Welch said.

The last time the Lincoln was in the shipyard was in 2003 and early 2004 after the vessel returned home from a 290-day deployment that included playing a critical role in the Iraq invasion.

“This work will boost Washington’s role in keeping our Navy strong and will support hundreds of family-wage jobs for Northwest workers,” Cantwell said in a statement.

The contract announced Friday will provide about 200 jobs.

Some of the ship’s crew of more than 3,000 are expected to remain in the Bremerton area during the work. Others will be shuttled back to Naval Station Everett, Navy officials said.
