Funding program makes world safer

Thank you for your important Tuesday editorial on funding the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. People who are so poor that they have no hope certainly are willing to turn to terrorism, crime or support for a charlatan politician who promises help. If we really want to make the world a safer place, our country needs to regain its position as a leader on programs that make a difference. If we can afford to spend more than a billion dollars a day on bombs and the defense budget, surely we can afford to spend $1 billion in one year as a contribution to the Global Fund. The Golden Rule applies. Let’s follow it.
