Terrace grabs last district berth

EDMONDS – Laurelle LaCasse left no doubt in leading the Mountlake Terrace girls soccer team to a 4A District 1 playoff berth.

The Hawks captured the fourth and final Wesco South division berth by defeating Mariner 4-1 Tuesday night at Edmonds Stadium.

LaCasse figured in all four goals with three assists and a game-winning goal of her own in the 20th minute.

Mariner’s Emily Carter put a brief scare into the Hawks by scoring the first goal in the second minute to put the Marauders up 1-0.

LaCasse assisted Haley Reutimann in the 16th minute to knot the score 1-1.

After LaCasse’s score off a Melissa Horton pass, Kylie Hollenbeck scored twice in the 60th and 77th minute from the foot of LaCassse.

Granite Falls 3, Sultan 2: At Sultan, Granite Falls scored two goals within the first 10 minutes of the second half to beat Sultan in a Cascade Conference game. Audrey Brown’s goal – the third for the Tigers – proved to be the difference in the game.

North Sound Christian 2, Grace Academy 1 (2OT): At Mountlake Terrace, Andrew McNabb scored the game-winning goal on a header off a corner kick by Blake Mallory approximately three minutes into the second overtime of the Northwest 1B League game. With the win, N. Sound captured the league championship. The Lions play Northwest 2B champion La Conner Nov. 2 at Mount Vernon for the District 1 title and the top seed to the tri-district playoffs.

In the other league finale, Lopez Island (3-5, 3-8) knocked off Master’s Touch (4-4, 4-7), 4-2.
