Solovei Art Gallery begins a new exhibit Wednesday that features a range of landscape art by artists Pat Tolle, Sandra Whiting and Mike Adams.
Tolle’s paintings strike with the excitement ofluscious colors, and at the first glimpse, appear as rich abstracts. Further studying, though, reveals that the shapes and lines in her works present an aerial sight of suburban, farm or beach lands. These bird’s-eye views of the trees, banks and rivers snaking around hills, threads of roads and bridges show beautiful synthesis of natural and manmade landscape.
Whiting paints serenity. Single objects in focus, often a small home, or a boat ashore, clearly stand out of thesophisticatedgeometry of the calm background. She has explored a variety of artistic techniques and incorporates elements of painting, printmaking, collage and assemblage in her work. Using a variety of brushes, she applies intricate layers of acrylic paint onto wood panels and canvas.
Adams’ metal sculptures are the abstract works. Some of them – perfectly shapedprisms and cones, accurately arranged in semi-ringalignment – could be taken foratolls or sleeping volcano craters. He has shown his jewel-colored abstract paintings in the Seattle area at numerous venues including galleries and the Bellevue Art Museum. He began creating bronze sculptures in 1999, based predominantly on mountain shapes.
An opening reception for these artists will be 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 3 at the gallery, 2804 Grand Ave., Everett. The exhibit runs through Nov. 29. The hours are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
