Annexation simply needs to happen

I get kind of miffed when I read letters against the annexation efforts going on in the city of Lake Stevens. I’ve read brightly colored flyers conveniently placed on the doors. I’ve heard every half truth and misconception about annexation. One thing is clear: annexation needs to happen and we need to become one community around the lake.

The concept isn’t complex – local tax dollars meeting local needs. While I would never fault Snohomish County for the fine job they’ve done with the limited resources they have, residents should jump at the chance to keep their tax dollars on this side of the trestle.

One reason we support annexation is the responsiveness of our local government. The city and their staff actively seek our input on issues important to the vitality of our businesses, listen to our concerns, and make the right decisions. Police Chief Randy Celori is one of the finest individuals I’ve worked with and his police force is second to none. We can be assured that when incidents occur at our businesses, the response will be fast and thorough.

I would encourage everyone in the annexation areas to sign the petitions when approached. The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber has purchased pro-annexation yard signs. If you’d like one, feel free to stop by our newly annexed office located inside Village Licensing agency, 9327 4th St NE, Ste 7. I’d also be happy to install the sign myself.
