The men’s team led by brothers Jason and Joel Larway earned a bronze medal at the U.S. National Curling Championships held Feb. 17-24 in Utica, N.Y.
Needing three straight wins to claim the national title, the Larway rink opened the semifinals with a 7-4 victory over the Craig Brown rink but lost in the second round 10-4 to the Todd Birk rink, a team from Minnesota that went on to claim the gold medal.
Team Birk defeated the Craig Disher rink of North Dakota 6-5 in the final to earn the right to represent the United States at the 2007 Men’s World Curling Championships to be held March 31-April 8 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Jason Larway of Lynnwood, who is the skip or captain of the team, and Joel Larway of Mukilteo, who plays the second position, have won four national curling championships, most recently in 2004 when they finished ninth at the world championship in Gavle, Sweden. Joining them at nationals were Colin Hufman of Lynnwood and Steven Demlow of Bothell.
Team Larway was 7-2 in the round-robin portion of nationals.
