SEATTLE – All good things must come to an end.

The Meadowdale baseball team finished fourth in the state this season after losing to Bonney Lake 2-1 in the 3A third-place game at Safeco Field Saturday morning.

Despite the loss, Meadowdale head coach Bill Hummel said he was “very happy” with his team’s season.

“It was a great experience for our kids,” he said.

The Mavericks fell behind early, after Cody Resser hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the first inning to put Bonney Lake up 2-0.

After that Meadowdale pitcher Jake Haight settled down, and held the Panthers scoreless for four more innings before being relieved by Chase Anselment in the sixth.

“He had to come in with some fastballs and they hit them,” Hummel said. “After (the first inning) he was sensational.”

Meadowdale finally got on the board in the final inning, when Anselment hit an RBI double over the center fielder with two outs. But the next batter lined out.

Cedarcrest takes third – decisively

WENATCHEE – The Cedarcrest baseball team lost a hard-fought game to Selah on Friday night.

Saturday afternoon the Red Wolves came back and took out some of their frustration on the Hockinson Hawks.

Twenty-eight hits and 27 runs later, Cedarcrest clinched third place with a 27-7 win over Hockinson in the 2A state tournament.

Cedarcrest began the shellacking with five runs in the first inning. That was followed with totals of three, four, three and one to give the Red Wolves a 16-6 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Then, Cedarcrest exploded for 11 more insurance runs to end any hope of a Hockinson come back.

“We had a little fire in our bellies,” Cedarcrest head coach Scott Goldsberry said. “We came out and really hit the ball around.”
