Our Paris prediction

Published 9:00 pm Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Bulletin: Paris Hilton’s out of jail, at least for the time being (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/06/08/100wir_a2paris001.cfm?refresh=yes).

Theory: The release wasn’t because Paris couldn’t handle jail and begged to get out. It was because the jail had her around for three days and couldn’t take it anymore.

Prediction: Look for a fall line of designer electronic ankle bracelets.

The Mariners chose 18-year-old pitcher Phillippe Aumont of Quebec in the first round of Thursday’s draft (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/06/08/100spo_c1m001.cfm?refresh=yes). Were they happy to get him? But of course!

“This guy’s ceiling is through the roof,” one giddy M’s scout said. He’s already made our heads spin by inspiring that metaphor.

The Sonics introduced new general manager Sam Presti (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/06/08/100spo_c2sonic001.cfm?refresh=yes).

At age 30, Presti is not old enough to remember Seattle’s only championship, or who shot J.R., or that “Charlie’s Angels” was quality television. Luckily for him, that means he also can’t remember Wally Walker as a player.

Presti answered questions about his plans with words like “vision,” “culture” and “defining an identity.” The kind of stuff you tune out during a corporate retreat.

Now he just has to find players who can block shots as well as he can swat away questions.
