Try education, not electronic devices

Regarding the Tuesday article, “Teen’s death brings call to limit railroad crossings”:
The article states, “About 100 yards east, only a stop sign is there to keep drivers safe.
On Monday, a heartbreaking warning appeared at that crossing: flowers and candles in memory of a teenager who died Saturday when a train struck a Honda CR-V on the tracks.”
There was only a stop sign there? We have stop signs all over this country. A part of drivers training programs discusses the reason why stop signs exist.
Now I see people want to replace the sign with more electronic warning devices. The problem was a driver ignoring the very basic rules of driving. There is no reason to add additional equipment at the crossing. I can’t help but wonder if the same people crying out for electronic signs want them at every stop sign in the county. If we must do anything to correct problems like this it would to place more emphasis on that part of driver training.
