Arlington: Firefighters get live practice time
ARLINGTON – Firefighters from north Snohomish County got some live fire-and-rescue practice recently, courtesy of the Stillaguamish Tribe.
Old buildings south of the Angle of the Winds Casino complex were burned in a cooperative effort that cleared the land on 35th Avenue NE and aided training for North County Fire/EMS. The buildings were old and deemed safety hazards, and they were condemned by the tribe.
The tribe allowed the firefighters to set practice fires during drills, and then spent about $100,000 to clean up and remove debris, said Shana Swanson of the tribe. Battalion Chief Christian Davis said that firefighters look forward to more cooperative efforts with the tribe.
The fire agency covers about 106 square miles in the unincorporated county.
