50 years ago (1957)

Neal Winner, Everett High School teacher, received pointers on the use of pipette equipment in preparation of samples of radioactive materials for assay studies in the biophysical laboratory of Harvard Medical School. He was one of 20 science teachers around the nation participating in the class sponsored by the Atomic Energy Commission and the National Science Foundation.

Everett Business College, 1509 Hewitt Ave., had an ad that had testimonials from some of its graduates, including Beverly Thurlow and LaVeda Robinson of Everett, Sharon Bertsch of Lake Stevens and Helen Bob of La Conner.

25 years ago (1982)

Gov. John Spellman came to Snohomish County this week to commiserate with the County Council about the overall lack of money. He told senior citizens organizations they should work hard for government-financed programs that were rightfully theirs. He and Executive Willis Tucker discussed the state’s $2 billion deficit.

The front page had a picture of David Parks of Arlington taking a calf-nap in the 4-H exhibition hall at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. David, a member of Clover Leaf 4-H Club, and his junior heifer calf won a blue ribbon.
