Navy gets award for child center
Naval Station Everett’s Child Development Center received accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The center is the first in the state to become accredited under a new NAEYC system. As part of the designation, the program is required to submit an annual report of improvements. NAEYC has the right to revoke a program’s accreditation status at any time if they feel the program is not making the grade.
According to Patricia Vierra, Training and Curriculum Specialist for Naval Station Everett, the accreditation process takes approximately 18 months.
“We looked at how we did things and found ways to make improvements to our program, curriculum and administration,” Vierra said.
“We are so excited to finally get the recognition our facility and program deserves,” said Judy McDonald, Child Development Center Director. “Our staff works hard to provide high quality programs and care to all our children enrolled, and to achieve this status is gratifying.”
Library meetings on Camano
The Camano Island Library Advisory Board is inviting patrons to share their thoughts on the new library during meetings at 10 a.m. today and Dec. 17 at the library, 848 Sunrise Blvd. at Terry’s Corner on Camano Island.
The board advises the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees on matters relating to the temporary Camano Island Library. The three-year pilot library was developed in response to community feedback in 2006.
The library opened in June as Sno-Isle determines how much interest there is on Camano for a permanent library.
