We hired officials to fight sprawl

Washington is one of the most pristine and beautiful states in the union. If we don’t put a stop to this wanton development of our rural lands now, we will never have for our coming generations anything left to call beautiful.
I often marvel at the awesome beauty that we have been so blessed with, a blessing I would like to have my grandchildren and theirs enjoy. Where, county, are we going from here? Next is it Lynnwood, then what, L.A.?
Oh, it can get worse, I just got back from Tokyo. It can get much worse. Pardon me, but isn’t the duty of county officials to protect us from urban sprawl? Did we not hire them to protect our lands and plan well for our children’s future? Is it too much to ask that they do the job they are being paid for, or are they supplementing their incomes from the developers? They had better stop and smell the evergreens while we still have some to smell.
Snohomish County residents, a new council will be sworn in at 9 a.m. Jan. 2. If you want responsibly managed growth, show up and let the county know.
