In an online poll by Merriam-Webster, contributors selected “w00t,” an expression of joy used by gamers, as the top word of 2007. Unfortunately, gamers were too busy slaying monsters in “World of Warcraft” to express any joy.
Smang: “A large sound that sounds like a smack and a bang.” Useful in sentences such as, “The fainting grammarian hit the floor with a smang after finding out the Word of the Year.”
Gastronaut: “An out-of-this world chef.” To attain this title, you could train with the finest cooks in Europe. Or you could bribe everyone you know with double-chocolate rum fruitcake cookies. Once they’ve had enough of those, they’ll probably say anything you want.
Blippo: “A combination of a blob and a hippopotamus” — which is what you’ll become if you’re friends with a gastronaut who likes to make double-chocolate rum fruitcake cookies.
Travelatrocity: “A vacation that is guaranteed to be filled with stress before it begins.” Caused by long lines, missed flights or trips to New York when Yankees fans are feeling smug.
